Dr. Matthew B. Werd is a podiatric surgeon at Foot and Ankle Associates of Lakeland. Chief of podiatric surgery at Lakeland Regional Health, Dr. Werd is board certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Podiatry Management named him one of the “Top 25 Most Influential Podiatrists in the U.S.” in 2012. He specializes in sports injuries of the lower extremity and reconstructive surgery of the foot, ankle and leg. Past president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine, he lectures locally, nationally and internationally on sports medicine topics. He also serves on the sports medicine staff at Florida Southern College. Dr. Werd graduated magna cum laude from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. He holds degrees in biology and chemistry from Indiana University in Bloomington, and completed an accelerated year of pre-med biology courses and laboratory studies at Harvard University in Boston, MA. He completed a foot and ankle surgical residency, with advanced training in sports medicine in Miami and a fellowship in reconstructive surgery in Davos, Switzerland.
